Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016

As the world rapidly becomes more and more reliant on cyberspace, laws have to step in to protect citizens from crimes committed via these channels. On August 11, 2016, Pakistan’s National Assembly, passed a cyber crime law called the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016. The Act, among offenses related to cyber terrorism, also includes a crime of spamming malicious code, and criminalizes defamation “through any information system or devices.” Hence it aims to provide greater protection to citizens who might be victims of the circulation of intimidating and defamatory content.
